50th Spotlight: Toledo Kemmer

“I remember visiting the campus in 1988 to eat lunch with my dad as he was helping build the Robert Warren Student Center” reflects Toledo Kemmer, this week’s 50th Anniversary Spotlight. Kemmer continues, “I didn’t know at that moment that this is where I would be [Sampson Community College] 19 years later starting a new chapter in my life, not only furthering my education but beginning a career in education, as well!”

Toledo Kemmer is a full-time staff member within the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department at Sampson Community College. Also as one of this year’s graduates, Toledo is the recipient of the Academic Excellence Award. “I am truly humbled and honored to receive the Academic Excellence Award. For me, it’s a reminder of my educational journey that included some of the best faculty members who are talented and passionate about what they do, and many fellow classmates who have touched my life in a most special way. This award is also a reminder of the importance of perseverance and dedication.”

“SCC has been a blessing for my family and I for it has opened up the world of education to us. My husband, Bill Kemmer, and I are both graduates and employees of SCC. We have been able to experience the world of education from two sides – student and staff.”

“I strive to tell others that though the journey may seem long, persevere and know that if you do, you will reach your destination” smiles Kemmer. She continues, “I persevered for eight years on this journey and I give God the glory for sustaining me. He will do the same for you if you just ask Him!
