SCC Recognizes Industry Partnerships

As Sampson Community College celebrates 50 years, it is an honor to recognize the industry partnerships formed through the Customized Training Program (CTP) which provides education, training, & support services to Sampson County business/industry. Since the inception of the program, an array of businesses and industries have become strong partners, including: Brooks Brothers – Clinton & Garland Plants, Burch Farms, Carr Precast, Dubose National Energy, Dubose Strapping, Enviva Pellets – Sampson County, Farm Fresh, Hog Slat Inc. – Clinton & Garland Plants, Hubb’s Corn Maze, Jackson Farming, Murphy Family Ventures – Sampson County, Precision Tools, Prestage Farms, Rheinfelden Americas, Schindler Elevator, Smithfield Foods, and Southeastern Outdoor Products.

Within this program, business and industry partners identify a training need and together, with the program director Kate Brown, decide on the type of training and number of classes needed to meet the training goal(s). CTP focuses on critical skills that change due to technological or process advances. Customized training is directed toward the skilled and semi-skilled production worker, industrial maintenance worker(s), and leaders of personnel who perform industrial processes.

Tracey Sprague, Vice President of Carr Precast, stated, “We have been pleased with the partnership with SCC. It has been a great resource for us as well as being convenient and cost effective. Everyone at the company has now received some sort of customized training, at some level, and we are looking forward to implementing our newfound knowledge and certification.”

Southeastern Outdoor Products’ General Manager, Eddie Hatcher, stated, “Our employees are eager to be trained in the proper operation of forklift safety, and we are confident the skills they acquire will help to maintain safety & efficiency of this operation.”

Kate Brown, SCC’s Director of Customized Training & Occupational Extension Programming adds, “Businesses and Industries have entrusted us at the College to come into their organization and work with employees in upgrading skill levels in the areas of: industrial maintenance, safety, leadership, and continuous improvement. Each of the employees are associated with knowledgeable and skilled Instructors that have worked diligently to further their educational needs in order to improve efficiency and productivity in the workplace. By preparing a workforce with the essential skills needed for success, the CTP enhances the company’s competitiveness within a global economy.”

“Dear Student(s),” continues Brown, “As you embark upon your professional career, SCC’s CTP provides business/industry educational opportunities. I encourage each of you to register for the classes offered via your company. We offer flexible training and countless instructional resources that are needed for on the job training to be viable in the workplace.
