50th Spotlight: Captain J. F. Royal

“Taking BLET has led to my 24-year career at the Dunn Police Department” states Royal. A graduate of Sampson Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program in 1993, this accomplishment was only the beginning of Captain J. F. Royal’s journey.  He continues, “Additionally, those classes I took prior to enrolling in the BLET program at SCC in the general education program transferred and allowed me to complete my college studies at the University of Mount Olive with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.”

“Sampson Community College gave me the base needed at a time when I could not afford a four-year university. Although I never completed my associate degree at that location, all my credits transferred years later when I realized the importance of a college degree.” The impact and legacy of SCC continues in the Royal’s family as his daughter is taking advantage of the Career and College Promise (CCP) Program, giving her the opportunity to take college classes for college credit, while in high school,

“I envision Sampson Community College being a force in training today’s workforce. With such diversity in workforce needs, the Community College has an opportunity to be versatile enough to fill those needs” adds Royal.

Congratulations Captain Royal on being this week’s 50th Anniversary highlight and thank you for sharing your story. For more information about Sampson Community College, visit www.sampsoncc.edu or call 910-592-8081, Sampson Community College, “Begin Here, Go Anywhere”.
