SCC Foundation Directors Tour Trade Facilities

[Clinton, N.C.] – Last week, the Sampson Community College (SCC) Foundation Board of Directors had the opportunity to tour the College’s trade facilities during their quarterly board meeting. The tour allowed the community advocates to learn more about the available programs at SCC and see how the College is currently making an impact in Sampson County.

“It is always a pleasure to introduce the Foundation Board to our staff and faculty and let the Directors see firsthand the excitement and energy around our training programs,” explained Lisa Turlington, Dean of Advancement & Executive Director of the Foundation. “They are a bridge to the community and are some of our strongest advocates, so we want to keep them informed.”

The SCC Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit that cultivates community support for the College and seeks funding from the private sector to support SCC’s mission for students to, “Begin Here, Go Anywhere.”

One of the major ways the Foundation influences students at SCC is through scholarships. During the 2020-2021 academic year, over $170,000 was awarded through 100 different scholarships to more than 125 deserving students at SCC, assisting many whom do not qualify for federal student aid.

Gifts to the Foundation not only help in the short term but are truly an investment in the people and future of Sampson County, as the Board of Directors witnessed during their tour.

Bill Fulton, President of the SCC Foundation, elaborated, “A first-time visitor to the trades facilities might be surprised to see the level of sophisticated equipment and machinery that is employed for practical, hands-on learning. But of course, none of that is of much value without experienced and knowledgeable instructors and support staff who share a passion for developing skilled tradesmen and women. The quality of SCC’s trades programs are in-line with, if not superior, to those you would find at surrounding metro areas such as Raleigh, Fayetteville and Wilmington. We are so fortunate to have this ‘crown jewel’ of an institution right here in Sampson County!”

The guests were able to learn more details about SCC’s trade offerings, such as: the HVAC Program has a 100% job placement rate after graduation & SCC’s Construction program is currently building a full two-bedroom house. (Photo credit, Brett Feight)
