Written by Olivia Gillespie – Foundation Intern, Fall 2020

(CLINTON, N.C.) – Cheyenne McNeill is known at Sampson Community College (SCC) as the person that writes the wonderful articles that highlight the actions of others. McNeill is the Public Information Officer and Marketing Coordinator for SCC. As the Public Information Officer and Marketing Coordinator, McNeill oversees the writing for the newspaper and all of the print and social media marketing for SCC. McNeill started her education at Clinton High School and then in 2014 went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). While at UNC she studied Broadcast and Electronic Journalism. McNeill chose her topic of study at UNC because of her love of sports and talking.  After graduating, McNeill then became a Journalism teacher at Sampson Middle School. Then her journey began here at SCC.

Dr. Ted Thomas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees shared, “I have known Cheyenne all her life and watched her grow into a dynamic adult. Proud of her!”

McNeill only recently began working at SCC and already has had many new experiences. Through her position at SCC, McNeill has been able to meet many new people and learn so much about SCC. The majority of the time, McNeill is interviewing and writing articles about students, faculty, and staff.

When asked what she loved about her job, McNeill stated, “I like that when I do a story, I get to meet so many new people.” Although her job does not always allow her to be around students, she is able to meet new students through interviews and writing stories.

McNeill has already had a lasting impact on SCC. McNeill is known by her co-workers to give a hundred and ten percent in everything that she does, and this is shown greatly through the work that she has created for SCC. Her hard work can be shown on “The Viking Voice”, SCC social media pages, and all print media for SCC. McNeill’s hard work and commitment to her job has not gone unnoticed by those around her.

Lisa Turlington, Dean of Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation stated that, “It has been a pleasure working with Cheyenne in promoting the students, staff, and faculty of the college. She really knows how to make others shine. Her professionalism and calm demeanor have helped her take on broader responsibilities and adapt to the changing work environment.”

Cheyenne McNeill has a bright future here at Sampson Community College and she will only continue to grow as the Public Information Officer and Marketing Coordinator. McNeill is a great addition to Sampson Community College and she truly has a specialty in presenting the stories of others.
