(CLINTON, N.C.) – Ryan Rutherford has been at Sampson Community College (SCC) for a year and a half now. In his newest role, Rutherford acts as the Director of Facilities. He is always willing to lend a hand where it is needed. In addition to his friendly manner and his wide range of technical skill, Ryan is a master baker and keeps us all happy with his sweet treats!”
Rutherford grew up in a small town in the state of Washington. He is the sibling of two brothers and a sister. At the age of sixteen he moved to a new town, still in Washington. Between him and his wife they have four children and Rutherford raised his children in Washington state. He had stayed in Washington his entire life until five years ago when he moved to Montana with his wife. He and his wife lived in Montana for two years before moving to Sampson County.
The deciding factor for Rutherford moving to Sampson County was a job opening here at SCC for his wife. Initially it was Rutherford’s wife who worked at SCC, but she now has a new job at a different location. During the first months of moving to North Carolina, Rutherford did not have a job. He then saw the opening in the maintenance department. He decided to apply for the job and now has worked at SCC for over a year.
When asked about what he loves about his job, Rutherford exclaimed, “I love fixing stuff, I have always loved fixing things. I am a hands-on guy.”
Before coming to SCC, Rutherford worked for a maintenance department at a hospital in Montana. As the Director of Facilities at SCC, Rutherford as many main duties. These duties include making sure everybody in his department has the supplies they need to be successful. He also oversees ordering equipment, supplies, and parts. “Ryan has added his own personality and talents to the role of the plant director. He is one of the most energetic and approachable members of the staff. He brings a wealth of experience from his previous work in the upper Midwest and Washington State,” commented Dr. William Starling, Sampson Community College President. “He is an accomplished baker who brings cookies, cakes, and more to the office, and his good nature and baking prowess make him a favorite committee member. One of the benefits of working at a community college is the opportunity to work with talented and dedicated people. Ryan is one of those people, and SCC is a better place because he’s chosen to work here.”
Ryan Rutherford has not been at Sampson Community for a long time, but he has already become a key asset to the college. He has a very bright and promising future here at Sampson Community College.
