As a part of an annual tradition, the Sampson Community College Foundation hosted its Sampson Classic Golf Tournament on Friday, November 6. One of its largest donation events of the year, the golf tournament allows local golfers and businesses to raise funds for student scholarships and faculty outreach. This year, golfers teed off at Lakewood Country Club for a day on the green, and for a chance to give back.
The SCC Foundation was founded more than three decades ago and was designed to generate an awareness and broad community support for the college and to seek external funds through private donors to support the college’s mission. Through that, the Sampson Classic was formed.
As the event kicked off, annual participates greeted each other, while also welcoming newcomers to the fold. Breakfast, sponsored by McDonald’s of Clinton was shared and golfers entered in for door prizes, purchased half and half tickets, and prepared for the tournament. This fun-filled day is also one full of giving and support of Sampson Community College students and their futures.
Lisa Turlington, Dean of Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation, looks forward to event every year. A time to see old friends and long-time donors of SCC, she says the comradery, fun, and support surrounding the event make the hard work worthwhile.
“It is great to have so many friends of the college come together and have fun while raising money for education,” Turlington remarked.
