SCC Foundation Set to Host Annual Golf Tournament

It’s officially fall, and the Sampson Community College Foundation is preparing for its annual Sampson Classic Golf Tournament in memory of longtime supporter of the college, Bill Johnson. This year, the Foundation will host the 18th annual Sampson Classic Golf Tournament at Lakewood Country Club on Friday, November 6.

As the giving arm of the college, gifts given to the SCC Foundation fund student scholarships and support employee and student programs. Over the years, the Foundation has created lasting relationships with community members who give generously to support the college. Each year, several of the donors return to give again.

These relationships are often created through the number of events that the Foundation hosts. One of the largest and most exciting fundraisers of each year is the Sampson Classic Golf Tournament. Despite the unpredictability of this year, the Foundation hopes to continue that tradition this year.

“Every year, the Foundation looks forward to bringing together friends of the college to celebrate the legacy and memory of Bill Johnson. Even though this has been a trying year for everyone, we appreciate all the support this community has shown for this scholarship golf tournament, so we hope to have a strong turnout for the 18th Annual Sampson Classic,” Executive Director of the Foundation, Lisa Turlington, commented.

This year, registration and breakfast begin at 8:00 am, and the tournament kicks-off with a shotgun start at 9:00 am. All interested players must enter by Friday, October 30. Prizes and winners will be recognized, with the Hole in One sponsored by Deacon Jones of Clinton, a yearly sponsorship for the Foundation’s golf tournament.

Bill Fulton, longtime chair of the golf tournament committee and now Vice President of the Foundation, says taking a look at the SCC campus is refreshing. He encourages participation in the Sampson Classic as a chance for renewal.

“If like me, you find yourself needing the occasional lift of spirit and a reminder of brighter times ahead, I’d encourage you to take a drive through the SCC campus on a weekday where you’ll see a mostly full parking lot, and the sights and sounds of a vibrant and diverse community that is offering training and development for today and beyond…Or better yet, park the car and experience the community college from the vantage point of the popular walking trail,” Fulton stated. “Come join us for the annual Sampson Classic Golf Tournament, and help support Sampson County’s “crown jewel”, while enjoying a great day of fun and fellowship.”

The SCC Foundation was founded more than three decades ago and was designed to generate awareness and broad community support for the college and to seek external funds through private donors to support the college’s mission. Fulton and Turlington invite the community to do just that through an invitation to the 2020 Sampson Classic Golf Tournament.
