On April 1, the Student Services department at Sampson Community College welcomed three new staff members, Kaylan Sinclair, Stephanie Gore, and Maxwell Virgil. Dean of Student Services, Blair Hairr, says she’s excited to welcome passionate employees to the team. She commented, “I am thrilled to welcome Maxwell, Kaylan, and Stephanie to SCC. During their interviews, they each demonstrated the skills and character that uniquely qualifies them to excel in their new positions and serve the students of SCC. I look forward to Maxwell, Kaylan, and Stephanie being part of this important work and watching them grow into their new roles.”
Kaylan Sinclair attended Hobbton High School, then graduated from North Carolina State University in 2019 with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Technology. Sinclair takes on the role of Outreach and Career Specialist in Student Services. As a fairly recent graduate herself, Sinclair understands the importance of her role. “I know this is such an important transition—to go on and get a career and start a professional career. I’m excited to work hands-on with students to help them figure out what they want to do,” she remarked.
Fun Fact: Sinclair met her fiancé on a high school field trip at SCC. They’ve planned a wedding for December of 2020.
Stephanie Gore graduated from Clinton High School in 2014, then she attended East Carolina University, where she graduated in 2019 with a degree in Administrative Services. Now, Gore joins Student Services as the Transfer and Student Success Coach. Because she changed her major a few times in college, Gore understands the importance of being intentional with students and providing a positive advising experience. Gore wants students to feel heard and welcome in her office. “I want students to feel comfortable and not feel stressed. When they leave here, I want them to feel confident in whatever direction they’ve decided to go and feel that they have support,” she shared.
Fun Fact: Gore is half-Colombian, and an avid reader and painter.
Maxwell Virgil is originally from Queens in New York City but moved to Clinton in 2011. He graduated from Sampson Early College High School in 2019 where he also received an Associate of Arts from Sampson Community College. He’ll take on the role of Student Services Administrative Assistant, where he will welcome students to the Student Services office. Virgil hopes that he can provide a helpful, positive aspect to the Student Services desk. “A lot of times students are having a rough time in their classes and I hope I can put a smile on their faces and relieve some of their stress,” Virgil shared.
Fun Fact: Virgil enjoys dressing up by wearing suits and bowties to stand out. He hopes his new role will help him become more outgoing!
