Getting an A in class is quite the achievement. Getting an A for an entire department whose goal it is to help that student get an A in class is just as important. Sampson Community College’s Cosmetology once again made that grade after an inspection by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts.
“I am always so proud of this every time it happens,” says Loreta Jones, Cosmetology Department Chair at SCC. “I would like to thank the Cosmetology department students and instructors for such hard and dedicated work here at the college. They have worked very diligently. We made this grade because of the team that we have here.”

The NC State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners was created to establish professional standards for the cosmetic art industry. The Board licenses over 80,000 individuals and businesses in the various branches of the cosmetic art industry including cosmetology, manicuring, esthetics, natural hair care, salons, public and private cosmetic art schools and programs.
This A-grade comes fresh on the heels of the two new program launches being hosted in that department. In conjunction with the college’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education department, Natural Hair Care and Manicurist programs are underway at SCC.
The Natural Hair Care class focuses on services that feature tension on hair strands or roots by twisting, wrapping, extending, or locking hair by hand or mechanical device and includes the use of artificial or natural hair. Also, the new Manicurist program covers the care and treatment of the fingernails, toenails, cuticles on fingernails and toenails, and the hands, feet, including the decoration of the fingernails and the application of nail extensions and artificial nails.
Jones says that type of growth makes her think of the college’s slogan. “Begin here go anywhere,” she says, “It is starting to become beginning here and expand everywhere!” For more information about Cosmetology at SCC, contact Loreta Jones, Cosmetology Department Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org or 910-900-4069.
